Mediation & Reconciliation

Working with conflict, repairing relationships and rebuilding trust

Mediation & Reconciliation is Misriyati’s programme for working with conflict, harm and damaged relationships within communities, organisations and groups.

We support individuals and groups to understand conflict, create spaces for meaningful dialogue, address harmful behaviours, and find pathways towards repair, accountability and reconciliation. Our work brings together mediation, restorative approaches, facilitation and peacebuilding, while drawing on locally rooted and customary practices of conflict resolution.

The programme includes

  • Mediation and facilitated dialogue
  • Conflict assessment and process design
  • Reconciliation, restoration and repair
  • Understanding different concepts and practices of justice
  • Exploring customary and community-based mediation
  • Transitional justice and addressing legacies of violence and harm
  • Supporting groups experiencing persistent conflict or transgressive behaviours
  • Allyship, accountability and collective responsibility
  • Research and documentation of local approaches to conflict resolution
  • Training and development for mediators, facilitators and peace practitioners
  • Follow-up processes to rebuild trust and sustain agreements

Our approach

We do not see conflict simply as a problem to be resolved. Conflict can reveal relationships, power dynamics and unmet needs, while raising deeper questions about justice, responsibility and repair.

We therefore work with people, relationships and the wider dynamics surrounding conflict, creating processes where different experiences can be heard, harm can be acknowledged, responsibility can be taken and relationships can begin to be repaired.

We are particularly interested in understanding how different communities define and practise justice, and what can be learned from customary and community-based forms of mediation and reconciliation. We bring these forms of local knowledge into conversation with contemporary approaches to mediation, restorative practice and transitional justice.

From resolving disputes to repairing relationships and addressing legacies of harm, we support people and communities to find pathways towards a more just and peaceful way of moving forward together.
